పద్యం:

ఎప్పటి కెయ్యది ప్రస్తుత
మప్పటి కామాటలాడి యన్యుల మనముల్
నొప్పింపక తానొవ్వక
తప్పించుక తిరుఁవాఁడె దన్యుఁడు సుమతీ.

తాత్పర్యం:

ఏ సమయమునకు ఏది తగినదో,అప్పటికి ఆ మాటలాడి ఇతరుల మనస్సుల నొప్పింపక,తాను బాధపడక,తప్పించుకొని నడుచుకొనువాడే కృతార్థుడు.

In English:

Eppati keyyadi prastuta
mappatika mataladi yanyula manamul
noppimpaka ta novvaka
tappinchuka tiruguvadu dhanyudu Sumati!

Meaning of the poem (Tatparyam):

prastutam=appropriate; dhanyudu=fortunate person; manamul=minds Sumati, a person, who speaks whatever is appropriate at the given time and so doesn’t hurt others’ feelings, or get his own feelings hurt, is fortunate. Whenever we interact with a person we have to consider the occasion, the time and that person’s frame of mind. We should not hurt him, nor should we get hurt ourselves.
